TR-135 has been approved

In the end of December 2007 DSL Forum approved TR-135, Data Model for a TR-069 Enabled Set Top Box.

TR-135 defines the necessary data model to do remote management of an STB via a TR-069 server and is expected to be an important part of how service providers manage their IPTV-services in the future. It is considered to be a cornerstone in the upcoming Broadband Suite 3.0 expected in the end of 2008.

TR-135 can be used for initial configuration of a newly deployed STB, but it's main objective is to be a tool for trouble-shooting and collecting statistics to be used in QoS and QoE (Quality of Experience) analysis. With the use of TR-135 a technician can remotely take control of an STB and perform firmware upgrade and various diagnostics-tasks. For QoS/QoE-measurements TR-135 can be used to gather parameters such as packet loss, bit-rate and jitter as well as usage statistics. The usage statistics can for example be used to see how many STB's are turned on at any given time, and how long each of the STB's are tuned in on a specific channel.
This will provide valuable information about user-patterns and can help the service provider to put together the correct product-packages for its customers.
